Man and Woman fights in overcrowded MRT Train and Confucius cries

Initial MRT confrontation - the stare down
This scene occured on a Sunday after in the MRT train heading from City hall to Joo Koon. It was at Raffles Place station when the crowded started pushing in. Everyone being Kiasu as normal Singaporeans are hurriedly shoved their neighbours and grabbed any seats available. A couple managed to get in front of two seats. The wife in the corner managed to sit down. However just when the husband turned around, took off his bag and was about sit down, a middle aged woman intercepted his lowering butt and put hers down instead.
The guys surprised that there suddenly appeared a woman in his seat was totally upset. He stood up and looked really annoyed. The wife tried to pacify him by offering to take his bag for him.He was not to be pacified easily. He started staring at the middle aged woman in anger. At first the woman choose to ignore him. He grumbled under his breathe. The middle aged woman took offence and started staring back at him.

Stare Down Intensifies in the MRT train
The guy was provoked and he grumbled even more. This lead the woman to stare even more intensely at the guy. A period of intense stare down happened between the two of them. The middle aged woman being stupid as she was unnecessarily provoked him by hurling abuses at him and even bitched at his wife dressed in purple who was sitting beside her. "What kind of husband is this?" She said in a very disrespectful manner. The guy took offence and started getting loud.

confrontation in MRT gets physical and really aggressive
"Eh! You bloody snatched my place and then hurl abuses at me. You want to fight with me is it!?! " he said
"Eh! look at the sign ok. it says give up your seats to old folks."
"You fucking old is it!?! Don't bloody fucking play old just so as an excuse for snatching my seat."
"So what if I snatched your seat. You beat me lah!"
"Ok lah I will beat you, you bitch you bloody asking for it lah!"
Everyone in the train cabin stopped talking and started looked at the both of them embroiled in this really serious argument.
The train finally stopped at Outram Park. The author of this article finished taking the pictures with his phone and slipped out as the wife (seen in picture 3) noticed him taking pictures.
At times like this, SMRT quote of Confucius' analects "It does not make how slowly you go as long as you do not stop" seems like a really lousy excuse for the longer waiting time at the platform, the more packed and crowded trains as well as the general higher levels of stressed faced by passengers. Also we should not forget the gradually increasing level of travel fares we pay.
Is SMRT being a semi government body really promoting higher levels of public well fare with their practise of offering service of poorer quality at a higher price?
The environment changes people and sometimes for the worst. In this case, it is really true. Both parties involved were at fault. The middle aged woman should have excuse courtesy. She should not have snatched the seat of the guy who was just trying to sit with his wife. The guy should have practised some respect for elders by offering his seat to her.
However the fault is not solely theirs. Everyone is being squeezed and milked by semi-government agencies like the SMRT for profits. High levels of stress results in public outburst like what was seen. Confucius will have turned in his grave if he knewed a phrase from his analects was used as a slogan by a company out not to promote social values but to destroy it.

I think Singaporeans are asking too much out of the government.
Seriously Singaporeans need to start learning to appreciate what the government is doing and not just grumble and complain about everything in the world.
I am a Uni student in Sydney and the transport network here is a universe away from the SMRT and SBS.
Cityrail which is the metro system in Sydney is terrible for the following reasons:
1. They charge AU$5 – $10 for a train ticket and they do not have any form of ez-link convenience here.
2. Their trains run at intervals of 15-20 minutes during peak hours and 30 mins during off peak hours and weekends.
3. Their trains are old, heavily vandalised and dirty. Some older cars have a lack of air conditioning which is suffocating during summer.
4. They have constant delays and trains frequently arrive late.
5. Trackwork is done on weekends which means they close entire lines during these weekends and buses replace trains.
6. Their fare increases about 20 to 40 AU cents a year so please what is the Singapore fare hike compared to here.
SO before you ungrateful Singaporeans start complaining about Singapore being this and that, PLEASE open your eyes and your narrow minded brains to take a look around the world.
Appreciate the safety, cleanliness and economic stability in Singapore.
Need I remind you all that the government is a non-profit organisation that strives to ensure Singapore is economically stable and debt free.
Yes there are controversial decisions made at times but which government is perfect?
So please, stop whining and bitching about life in Singapore. Cherish what we have got.

Mark cherish the fact that you don’t have to sqeeze like sardine fish and also get squeezed like a lemon over there in Australia as they are limiting the influx of cheap foreign labour and maintaining salary that is equitable to the work volume.
Quite whining and bitching like a Singaporean about life in Australia.
Appreciate the safety, cleanliness and economic stability in Australia.
Cherish what you got there while you can.

Singaporeans are jokes. Seriously Aussie_lover you don’t even comprehend what Mark is trying to say. If you lowlife hypocrites bother to cherish your education when you were younger, you wouldn’t have to squeeze on the MRT like some lowlife scum. All you tapeworms only have yourselves to blame for being unsuccessful in life, so stop complaining.

Chris Jericho, There really is no link between high education and squeezing in MRT. Are you trying to say that if you are a degree holder, a masters degree holder or a phd holder people will be so in awe when they see you on the train, they will make lots of space for you and even roll out the red carpet for you? What kind of nonsense are you talking about? You must be living in some kind of fantasy world

“chris jericho” with a attitude like this you will not succeed in life. Dont criticise people when you are one. You are still a kid as i can see from your WWE name. You have no rights to criticise singaporeans. You have no rights to judge singaporeans just by a few people you’ve seen. Or u are jealous bout singaporeans ? Well. Look at yourself first. Dont say the wrong thing and get sued.

Yeah I know what you mean , life these days is just different then it was back in the old days . I mean our grand parents just never really thought about this , technology as we know it from many angles helps change things for both the good and the bad. Reckon I look at things from a old perspective, however I remember back when life was simple. Someones word was their bond rather then their signature , you could trust if your kids were outside by themselves they were safe , and things just weren’t as costly. I recon costs are always going to have inflation, but you know I don’t know why how come we can’t return to the days when neighbors really cared about each other and actually knew what their neighbors names were . I guess that is a thing of the past , but you know its a great day to be alive , I reckon we ott to just keep on keeping on.
