Black Magic Happening in Modern Singapore
We were taking an evening stroll along west coast part when we noticed this strange tribal music. We saw a large gathering of crowd gathered on the grass patch. We got curious and approached to take a look.
It was so crazy. There were a bunch of folks dressed in very traditional malayan archipelago costume. There was smoke coming forth from the lamp that was place in the center of the circle.
Half of the folks were riding horses, paper ones. The other half were standing around holding whips. When the horsemen past by the whipmen would whip them mercilessly. They didn't seem to notice the pain, these horsemen. At one point they were even stepping on this gunny bag littered with broken glass.
I asked one of the spectators what was happening. He said Kuda Kepang was happening. It was an ancient shamanistic practise by the Javanese to keep the spirits in check. He said sometimes when the spirits who have possessed the horsemen go wild. the horsemen would riding into the spectators and go wild. One closer look I notice the horsemen were chewing something.
They were all in a state of trance. It was crazy. So of them past out and were being revived by the chief shaman. It was amazing that black magic related rituals like these are still happening in modern day Singapore.
